Safe Holiday Training Guide and Giveaway!

Because it's the holiday season, I figured I'd go over some things I do to stay safe while running during the holidays.

1. Wear your Road ID!

2. Wear reflective gear so drivers can see you...especially crazy drivers out to get a hot deal at the nearest store! Seriously beware of this...I was almost hit by a car while walking in the mall parking lot! I definitely should have had on reflective gear cause this woman didn't see me at all!

3. Bundle up if you are in cold weather!

4. Wear Yaktrax so you don't wipe out! Especially if you are going out to chase Santa and Rudolf!

5. Fuel yourself properly so you have enough energy to finish that holiday run!

I hope these safe holiday training tips help you this season!

To help you on your way to a safe holiday season, Scott from Outside PR is letting me host this awesome giveaway!

To stay safer, since most of my running is unfortunately in the dark, I've been using a blinking red light that I was given at a race earlier in the fall. It slides on very easily and so far hasn't even tried to fall off. So far, so good - nobody has hit me!

I liked GU on FB too!

If the weather is really questionable or since it is getting dark early - I have [sadly] been running more on the treadmill. I hydrate properly in the winter - even if I am not thirsty! I also always let someone (i.e. husband) where I am going and when I expect to return if I am running alone! I would love to win a Road ID - thanks for the giveaway!!

To train during holidays (when I'm not sick :-( which I currently am) I usually run at a local community center gym even though I prefer the great outdoors. This is my first time to your blog! Look forward to coming back. BTW my middle name is Rae :-)

To train safely in the winter, I:
1.) try to run in the daylight only
2.) carry my cell phone
3.) carry one of those silver emergency blankets (like they give away at some big race finish lines) and a flashlight, just in case I fall and get hurt while on a trail and it gets dark before I can get back to the car
4.) text my husband when I start out on a run and when I end a run (kinda pointless, he has his phone ringer off during work hours so he never gets them)

Wells L said...

I've put this give away on my blog's side bar under "win this".

I know exactly what I would get -- the clip on light that they have! I have a pair of Nathan reflective slap bracelets, and this morning it became abundantly clear that they do not work at all (unless the drivers in my neighborhood are just MEAN in the dark, which I don't think is the case, because they always give me lots of room in the daylight).
